What Makes Wrinkle Creams Work?

by Jen Hopkins

Many different ingredients can be found in wrinkle creams. This can range from chemicals that are artificially made to have specific effects on the skin to prolong the effects of aging. Others make use of natural ingredients, usually obtained from plants, that are proven to have anti-aging effects.

One very common ingredient that is included in a lot of wrinkle creams are peptides. Their effects can vary greatly but all of them are important in reversing the aging process. Some may induce cells to divide faster, thus helping the skin repair damages faster. Other peptides work by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin to make the skin more elastic.

Moisturizers are also a common ingredient used in creams. This is important as dry skin is easily prone to becoming cracked and damaged. Imagine soil that is dry and compare it to moist soil. Moist soil is not only better to look at, but it is also more resistant to becoming damaged.

Another cause of the aging of the skin is antioxidants. These are wastes that are found in the body that takes some time before it can be eliminated. Its accumulation can cause damage to the cells of the body leading to a faster rate of aging. By eliminating these free radicals with the use of antioxidants in creams, the skin will remain looking younger for a much longer time.

Natural ingredients may also be used by creams. Not all plants can be used as they first need to have anti-aging effects before they can be included as ingredients for creams. Once a plant has been proven to have anti-aging effects, it can be extracted and incorporated for use in creams.

A lot of creams work by restoring and rejuvenating the skin so that it returns to its younger looking appearance. But another action of creams may be to protect the skin from the various effects of the environment, such as UV rays from the sun. Some creams may have sun protective factors that can prevent damage from the sun which can cause an increase in the rate of skin aging.

As you can see, most wrinkle creams combine different ingredients with different effects to provide a better overall effect on the skin. Focusing on just one aspect of anti-aging will not be very good in giving the impression that you are younger than your actual age.

So don't buy a cream that focuses on just eliminating specific signs of aging on the face. It is best to buy a cream that contains a variety of ingredients that are already proven to work in fighting the effects of aging in the body. This way, you are sure that you are getting your money's worth when using a cream.
